Professional Development and Consultation

I am passionate about supporting the development and growth of clinicians working with complex and relationship-based traumas through the provision of clinical supervision, training and consultation.

While knowledge is powerful, I believe applying that knowledge into practice requires ongoing support and reflection. Drawing on over a decade of lived and practice-based experiences, I’m so lucky to get to work with new and emerging clinicians in the development of their clinical practice.

I work with supervisees to address a range of issues including:

  • Vicarious Trauma, compassion fatigue, moral injury and burnout

  • Case conceptualisation and treatment planning

  • Solution-focused approaches to address clinical issues and challenges in practice

  • Supportive clinical decision-making and risk management

  • Development of professional identity

  • Support to engage in critical reflection and reflective practice

Support for Managers and Leaders

The ability for clinicians to provide trauma-informed care and practice in their work is highly dependent upon ensuring that the system that they work within also supports and integrates trauma-informed practice principles into their workplace culture.

Samantha provides supervision and consultation to managers and team leaders working in government and non-government services to support their own critical reflection of how trauma-informed care and practice may be applied systemically and be supported holistically.

Samantha has received formal training in Trauma-Responsive Leadership and Managing Vicarious Trauma and integrates this knowledge with practice experiences as a trainer and clinical expertise to offer a supportive, private, non-judgement third space for managers and leaders to reflect on their approach and its impacts on workplace culture, moral and staff wellbeing and client outcomes.

Common themes for support may involve:

  • Discussion about management-related stressors or challenges

  • Issues with team dynamics and morale

  • Supporting teams through navigating organisational changes

  • Change management issues

  • Responding to psychological and psychosocial risks

  • Recreation of relationship-based trauma dynamics and how to respond

Evidence shows that organisations that are able and supported do this effectively can better respond and minimise psychosocial risks and psychological impacts for those working in helping professions.
